“Britten Illuminations, Part II”

Moving from Benjamin Britten’s early compositional period and his travel to the U.S. explored in Part I, this program picks up with Britten’s return to England, focusing on his later string quartets and other influences. It includes improvisations of Chris Turner; readings from Thomas Mann, T.S. Eliot, and Thomas Hardy; and the letters and diary entries of Peter Pears, Shostakovitch, Rostropovitch, and Britten. Featuring Katherine Wintertstein, violin; Consuelo Sherba, viola; Emmanuel Feldman, cello; Nigel Gore, reader; Chris Turner, reader and harmonica.
