Our popular walking tour of 1670′s Pawtucket, The Jenks Settlement follow a one-mile path of downtown Pawtucket, Rhode Island, beginning an ending at Old Slater Mill, the Birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.
For one hundred years prior to the arrival of Samuel Slater, Pawtucket was a thriving artisan and iron worker community, settled originally by Joseph Jenks, Jr., who left his father’s ironworks in Saugus, MA to establish a forge in Rhode Island.
The tour will explore the locations of the first iron forge in Pawtucket – established prior to the outbreak of King Philip’s War – as well as the settlements of Jenks’s four sons, and other historic sites and structures.
