as we Welcome Summer at Slater Mill!
We would like to say thank you to our members and invite our supporters to this 3rd annual Welcome Summer party and fundraiser on the grounds.
We are celebrating the 200th Anniversary of Wilkinson Mill. Built by Oziel Wilkinson in 1810, this historic mill was used to support the creation of machinery for the Slater Mill.
Water from the Blackstone River powers the Wilkinson machine shop through the use of a 9 ton wooden waterwheel which was recreated based on the findings of an archaeological dig when restoration on the Mill began in the 1960's.
Enjoy the view of the Blackstone River, cololnial garden, festive music, light fare from local retaurants, wine and beer.
Welcome Summer features pianist Greg Moses from The Piano Key. Expect music that echoes like a summer sonata by the falls on the river and melodies from favorite shows that raise the evening's curtain on the good ol' summertime. Greg is a featured pianist for the Bank RI Independence Weekend Celebration at India Point, performing in tribute to a Rhode Island favorite son and a founding father of American musical theater in "The Songs of George M. Cohan." But first, Greg helps us celebrate summer at Slater Mill with our own founding father.....of American innovation!
