Finishing School Workshop-Deborah Newton

Deborah will give a 3 hour workshop, exploring the elements of finishing: the best way to make your sweaters and knitted projects look their best! Attendees will have hands-on contact with the sweaters and swatches from her new book FINISHING SCHOOL. Deborah will talk about seaming, blocking, yarns, edges and trims, buttons and zippers, buttonholes and pockets-- come and share in her process for putting together knitted projects in the most professional way.
Students will be required to bring a large swatch and some extra yarn. Also, if you would like to bring a project with finishing problems, Deborah will share her advice with everyone..

Andean Intarsia- Mary Jane Mucklestone

This workshop presents colorful knitting the Andean way! We’ll use an Andean checkerboard pattern to develop our Andean knitting and purling skills, with the yarn tensioned around our necks. We will learn the secrets of the “corded join” and learn topurl backwards, manipulating our bobbins of many colors, while beginning an intarsia hat or headband. Come prepared to flex your brains and manipulate your fingers and thumbs!
Supplies: Light worsted weight yarn in the following amounts:150 yds of MC; choose the very darkest, or very lightest color in your group, black or white preferred; 50 yds each of 5-8 additional colors. Needles 1 each, size 6 (4mm) and 7 (4.5mm) 16” circular needles; 1 set size 7 (4.75 mm) double pointed needles. Hook Size F or G Crochet hook Notions: Scissors; stitch markers; tapestry needle; sticky notes or magnetic board with magnetic ruler; pencil and notepaper; colored pencils to match your yarns if desired. Prep-work: With smaller needle and MC, CO 120 sts using longtail method. Place marker, join without twisting, for working in the round. Purl one round. Class fee: $100
Beaded Cuffs– Helen Bingham

Using fingering cotton yarn and tons of seed beads, students will knit up a cuff bracelet. You will learn how to knit with beads, fix mistakes and attach a closure.

Log Cabin Gone Crazy!- RoseAnn Hunter
Sunday 10AM-4PM
Create your own Folk Art by combining knitting with embroidery and quilting. Learn to knit crazy quilt squares, embellish them with Crazy Quilt stitches and quilt them with batting and a wool backing. These squares can then be sashed with wool and made into a blanket, rug or even a wearable art piece.

Thrummed Mittens-Helen Bingham
Sunday 10AM-1PM
Using worsted weight yarn and roving, students will learn how to knit in the round on double pointed needles and work with roving to create thrums. They will create the warmest mittens EVER.

Fair Isle Socks– Mary Jane Mucklestone

So you’ve knit a pair of socks or two and you’ve done some stranded colorwork. How about having a bit more fun and combining the two? You’ll start work on a pair of fair isle socks, stranding and picking up tips and techniques. We’ll learn to read charts, a simple heel that makes fair isle work easy, what to do with those pesky ends, ideas on choosing and combining colors, even a bit of design. Follow the pattern I provide or plunge in and design your own custom pair. Come ready for colorful fun and adventure.

Drop Spindle for Knitters - Beth Fitzpatrick
Sunday 1PM-3PM
Now is your chance to finally start spinning! You will learn how to spin on a drop spindle, as well as learning about twist, drafting and plying. Your instructor will share with you good sources of fiber and spindle variety. You will be spinning your own yarn in no time!
